Joseph Antonini (born June 23, 1939) is an American businessman and former CEO of the Kmart Corporation. Antonini joined Kmart as a trainee in 1966 and worked his way up the ranks to become CEO in 1987. He is credited with revitalizing the company's image and turning it into a thriving retail chain, expanding its product offerings and improving its customer service.
In 1990, Antonini faced controversy when Kmart was accused of fraudulently overstating earnings for several quarters. Antonini resigned as CEO in 1995 after admitting to accounting irregularities. He later pleaded guilty to charges of securities fraud and served six months in prison.
After his release, Antonini became an advocate for prison reform and authored a book about his experiences, titled "Scapegoat: An Insider's Account of the Homestead Strike of 1892."
